Creative Spark exhibition

Creative Sparks set to fly across the city

The work of a silversmith who blasts his creations with a shotgun, a dissolvable wedding dress and a kitchen in a box are among the unique and innovative creations on display at this year's Creative Spark exhibition.

Opening to the public on Saturday, Sheffield Hallam University's Creative Spark 2010 is a three-week-long free exhibition which showcases the finest talent from the University’s final year creative students.

Director of Sheffield Institute of Arts at the University, Professor Chris Rust, said: "Creative Spark gives members of the public the chance to experience some of the best creative work emerging from the University.

"The exhibition is very exciting this year because it embraces a wide range of subjects, from fine art to engineering, displayed across three venues at the University’s City Campus."

The cream of the University's photography, fine art, graphic design, performing arts, metalwork and jewellery, architecture and games animation courses are included in this year's exhibition.

There will be a series of events throughout the three-week exhibition, including a special lecture by war photographer David Cotterrell, professor of fine art at the University.

Among his many commissions and exhibitions, David has won a number of awards for his work across a variety of media, most recently a 2009 Philip Leverhulme Award to develop themes he explored while photographing soldiers in Afghanistan.

The exhibition will be launched on Friday 28 May with a guest appearance from Richard Dale, film-maker and Honorary Doctor of the University. Richard is director of Dangerous Productions, one of the world's leading independent film production companies.

Creative Spark is free and open to the general public from Saturday 29 May to Saturday 19 June, 10am – 4pm, at venues around Sheffield Hallam University’s City Campus. For more information visit www.shu.ac.uk/creativespark <http://www.shu.ac.uk/creativespark>
