ODEON Cinemas, the largest cinema chain in the UK, has launched an Apprenticeship Academy to offer jobs and work-based training for unemployed young people in London.
The brand new job opportunities and training academy at ODEON, for the young unemployed was unveiled on 12th June and will see seven of ODEON’s London cinemas take part.
Following a recent recruitment drive supported by national training partner Lifetime, this joint scheme has offered 21 young people Apprenticeship positions across the London region.
Employed as ODEON Team Members, the new apprentice recruits aged 18-22, will develop their counter service and customer service skills. The new Apprenticeship Academy will also provide the Apprentices with the chance to equip themselves with real employment credentials, as the course results in a Customer Service Level 2 qualification, equivalent to 5 GCSEs level A-C, including Maths and English.
As well as managing the training element of this Apprenticeship programme, Lifetime Training also provided cost free recruitment support for the new Academy; receiving more than 750 applications. Lifetime pre-screened and selected 100 Apprenticeship candidates to attend selection days run by ODEON on 9th and 10th July. 22 young people were shortlisted and started their Apprenticeship training on 13th July.
Mike Stevens Group & UK HR and Legal Services Director ODEON says: "We are committed to helping and supporting young people into the workplace. Offering Apprenticeships to young people in our London cinemas is a fantastic way to develop their skills and grow our workforce. The ODEON Academy will enable the young people to develop their theoretical and practical knowledge as well as enhancing their career opportunities within ODEON. The recruitment and training support from Lifetime has been invaluable and we are thrilled to begin this next phase to our learning and development vision for our business, our employees and our customers.”
Alex Khan, CEO Lifetime Training commented: "I am very pleased that Lifetime Training is able to partner ODEON Cinemas in providing this valuable recruitment and training solution for a new workforce at its city-based sites.
